Roland Sebastian Faber – Gropiusstadt ep

February 2010 and Roland Sebastian Faber is back at last with another slice of his trademark expansive and filmic kosmische musik on the Gropiusstadt EP (aube009).

As usual RSF brings his unique blend of the mechanical woven in perfect unison with the psychedelic as drum machines and sequencers intertwine into space along side guitars and soulful vocals.

The whole 3 track EP is sounding like a lost TATORT gem from the late 70s. A soundtrack of the early hours in a lonely grey concrete Berlin.

Comes in premium packaging with cover illustration from Emil Schult (Kraftwerk) and 180 gram vinyl pressed with the highest analog perfection.

The Fascination Movement – Bringing down the walls

1) Bringing Down The Walls
2) Bringing Down The Walls (Instrumental)

Moody, intense, sultry, with a driving bassline and a killer wordless refrain: It may be coming to you in the crisp first days of September, but “Bringing Down the Walls” was forged in the sullen heat of summer.

It’s insistent and humid like a packed dancefloor but there’s a nocturnal, reflective side to “Bringing Down the Walls” that gives it more depth than you might expect from such a sleek, compelling club anthem.

Once again the Fascination Movement has threaded the tricky path between melancholy and propulsion and came back with a song that possesses the best qualities of both sides.

The new digital single is out now exclusively via Amazon MP3 @ 265kbs (US, UK, France, Germany)
and Aube Records @ 320kbs (Everywhere)

The Fascination Movement – Remix Vol. I

Like any group enthralled by the history of electronic pop, The Fascination Movement love remixes. On the heels of their 0.5 EP, and to keep you busy while they put the finishing touches on their debut album, they give you Remix Vol 1. Starcluster twists “Radio” into burbling new dancefloor shapes with a tinge of 90s proto-house including 808 drums and roland baselines, ALBA (a new project with Roland Sebastian Faber and Michael Black of Unit 4/Jupiter Black) reworks “Down Again” into something sweeping and noctur nal, adding rock flavored live drums and a shimmering melody on top. Elitechnique stunningly suspends “Just Pretend” in space with spinning organs, transforming it from a propulsive pop song into something wholly different. In the days of dime a dozen remixes that consist of nothing more than retro fitting tracks with a 4/4 beat, these beauties show off the originals in new and surprising ways.

Limited promo edtion on wax, only 100 copies w/ hand-printed sleeves. Official release coming late april 2009.

The Fascination Movement – 0.5 ep

If you secretly believe that all of the best dance music has an undercurrent of melancholy then you are in for a treat. *After releasing their remix of Starcusters Smoke & Mirrors featuring Marc Almond earlier this year, the FM return with a debut EP of original music. The 4 song EP mixes the echos of new wave and italo with analtogether  contemporary sensibility and take on the genre.

They’re not alone in that quest, of course, their lineage stretches back to disco and new wave and forwards into today and anyone from *Solvent* to *Cut Copy*. Not that they’re narrow-minded or less than catholic in their tastes (not for nothing did *one of them play bass on the highly rated new Fleet Foxes album*), but the Fascination Movement run the kind of big tent where overly strict notions of genre crumble before finding that perfect tune that makes you forget what kind of day you had at work or that the economy is in shambles, that makes you want to drive down a highway all night long, that breaks your heart, that puts it back together again.

craig_bass

That fascinates you. 0.5, as the name indicates, is a first step, a rough draft, a plan, but damn if it doesn’t give you a healthy dose of faith in the whole project even as you’re humming along.

Roland Sebastian Faber – Wettkampf der Moleküle

handmade cover and illustration by Emil Schult / lim. edition 300 copies

aube-005-front

Molecular

Wettkampf der Moleküle

Molecular — a battle of particles… racing melodies fighting for dominance. An electronic pop tune with barock influences somewhere between Johan Sebastian Bach and Jean Michel Jarre. Catchy, haunting, energetic and competitive. Let the games start!

Eisengard is a story about a mellow ashra temple affair, a soundscape mixed with David Gillmore ‘esque guitars and 808 beats.
A deep and golden soundscape where the sun is dawning and sequences flow like an ever evolving liquid.
RSF second maxi (aube005) has been illustrated by Emil Schult with a serigraphie and a reinterpretation of the olympics rings. The pressing has been limited to only 300, so get yours before they are gone!

Smoke and Mirrors – the Fascination Movement Vocal Version

Smoke and Mirrors – Starcluster´s Alternative Version

Remixes of the superb Smoke & Mirrors track of Marc Almond and Starcluster. Marc Almond needs no introduction… This is a track that brings up the best memories of the Pet Shop Boys, New Order and of course, Soft Cell. This is one big anthem for the gay clubs, nu disco aficionados and British soccer hooligans who want to rave on some extremely well produced big sounding dance music! Limited vinyl remix edition!!

Smoke and Mirrors feat. Marc Almond – Original Mix

Winter of Ice

From “Dachluke” (think berliner jugendclub in the early 80s) with its hypnotic synth-line and mellow charm, via “winter of ice”, an obscure italo disco number with crispy melodies and a heavy bassline ( think Valerie Dore, but performed by the guys themselves) to “Smoke and Mirrors” featuring Marc Almond, in all his glory with a brilliant, emotional performance.

With this first EP Starcluster are delivering a vibrant work and all three tracks speak for themselves in this unique debut. Only the first 500 copies are available with an illustration by Marc Brandenburg.

Hold Me – Album Version

This finely produced track, with the energy of electro and house productions, brings us back to the golden period of Italo Disco.

Whose voice could have better complete those catchy bass lines and melodies, than the master himself, the italo disco king: Fred Ventura!? With sheer drive and innovative production skills “Hold me“ will always be a classic dance floor track… For people who love the dance floor as much as Jupiter Black do!

Syd Brak and his air brushed girls grace the cover of this italo disco retro-futuristic hit.
